The final years of the Sui Empire. Dao Ma, a bounty hunter on the run from the law who is traveling with a small child, decides to flee the village that has taken him in. The leader of one of the five desert clans asks him to deliver the country’s most wanted criminal—the leader of the rebels—to Chang’an. Accompanied by a female warrior and the village headman’s daughter, who dreams of seeing the capital, Dao Ma sets out on his journey, while mercenaries of all kinds begin hunting down the child in his care.
