France, second half of the XVIII century. In a place called Gévadan a terrible creature appears, nicknamed the Beast by the inhabitants, it mercilessly kills women and children. The Beast seems elusive, escaping from numerous raids, he is not taken by bullets, he disappears as suddenly as he appears, and only a few survivors are able to describe his appearance.

King Louis XV himself decides to find out what is going on and entrusts the scholar Gregor de Fronsac to investigate the brutal murders. With Gregor, another hero appears in Gévodan - the Indian Mani - he once saved de Fronsac's life, and now they are brothers by blood.

There is as much mystery around the silent Indian as there is around the Beast. Mani resorts to mysterious rituals and relies on the instincts and customs of his people to fight the monster.
