Late 15th century, Eastern Europe. Prince Vlad II lives only for the love of his wife, Princess Elizabeth. When duty calls him to the battlefield to hold back the Turkish invasion, he asks God for only one thing—to spare his wife's life during the war. But Elizabeth dies, and Vlad, angry at God, renounces Him.

400 years later. A priest of a special order examines a vampire who has ended up in a psychiatric hospital, while a lawyer from Paris arrives at Prince Vlad's castle, where Vlad begins to tell him his sad love story.
