Tom Ripley, a con artist and adventurer, arrives in Hamburg to pull off a scam involving a forged painting by a famous artist. At an auction, he meets Jonathan Zimmerman, a skilled framer, but Zimmerman refuses to shake Tom’s hand and makes an ambiguous remark about him. Upon learning that Jonathan has leukemia and doesn’t have long to live—and that his treatment requires significant financial resources—a stung Ripley decides to take revenge. With the help of a French partner from the criminal underworld, the seasoned con artist draws Zimmerman into a dangerous game and a series of murders.
