Dances with Wolves 1990

The United States during the Civil War. After being wounded in battle, Lieutenant John Dunbar requests a transfer to a new post closer to the western border of the United States. His new assignment is a small, remote fort. The commander had committed suicide, and Dunbar’s traveling companion was killed in a skirmish with Native Americans after delivering the lieutenant to his destination. There was simply no one left who knew that Dunbar was alone at the fort and would have to survive in the harsh wilderness, surrounded by the seemingly unwelcoming indigenous peoples of North America. Gradually, the lieutenant settles in and befriends the Native Americans.
