Lester Burnham is going through a midlife crisis. He isn’t respected or valued at work, and his happy family is nothing but a facade. His wife, Caroline, is having a passionate affair with a coworker, and his sullen teenage daughter, Jane, is infatuated with a neighbor who has been in a psychiatric hospital.
